National Parks

National parks are usually large areas of land that are protected because they have unspoilt landscape and many diffeient native plants and animals.

Nitmiluk used to be known as Katherine Gorge National park, but in 1989 the park was
handed back to it's Traditonal Owners and renamed Nitmiluk meaning 'Cicada place'.

My People, the Jawoyn people show great pride in country and culture, and this is shared with the thousands of people who travel here to Nitmiluk to experience the beauty of this coutry.

Nitmiluk National Park has kindly allocated a plot of the School Ready Students at Katherine High School. We are going to regenerate the land by caring for country.
